your feelings aren't yours and yours alone
a collection of sugary cakes and fallen out teeth, moru is designed to ask a question.. to blend innocence with decay, or the sinister with the sweet. moru are woven fragments, each tailored to create a sense of attachment to this digital object. underneath their cute exterior lies an intent which is hard to pin point, and an ultimate goal of staying with you forever. with delicately sliced wounds, soft locks of hair, flies buzzing around the familiar decay deep inside of their chest, they are asking us ;; do you truly own your feelings, or have they been placed there for you to find?
from undisclosed sources, memento moru evolved from the idea that art could be more than seenβ it could be felt, planted like a seed that grows roots into forgotten memories. each moru whispers pieces of something lost, and then put together from fragile pieces of what we both yearn for and feel scared by:::: death. in this project, each moruβs mementos test the boundaries of attachment, fascination, and manipulation. how deep can attachment go before it feels like someone elseβs hand has guided it all along?
the memento moru "project series" explores attachment, anguish, confusion, and excitement. participants can enjoy a crafted thought experience packaged as cute collectibles. moru can act as a portal to a darker space, where moru's sweetness conceals something harmful. moru is an experiment, virtual connection becomes a means to explore and manipulate deeply rooted fears, desires, and memories. where some will find moru disturbing or strange, others will enjoy the visuals and the juxtaposition.
"early moru testing phases"
the first live "experiments" with moru will be initiated on october 29th, 2024. a digital portal will open, marking the official beginning of the moru experiment. carefully chosen individuals will receive a cryptic invitation, guiding them. will they recognize the weight of these questions, or will they be drawn into the moruβs facade, unaware of what is beneath. it will be the first subtle test designed to probe at emotional attachment and susceptibility. will anyone notice the questions that moru is trying to ask? phase one will close, and then we will know. the creatures themselves, both cute and unsettling, will serve as baitβ innocent in appearance but crafted to enter into the psyche of many. how fast will moru leave the consciousness of select individuals?

during a dark october night in 2024, online users from a select community stumbled upon (or were instructed and lead towards) a strange phenomenon. memento moru "creatures" appeared in select feeds and channels, watching silently. no explanations offered. just a quiet, invitation to stare back, to let oneβs own mind fill the silence. visitors swore the moruβs eyes followed them. but was it real? β moru is just a digital artifact after all.
as participants navigate, they are not only observers; they become active subjects in a larger experiment. their interactions with the moru are monitored, analyzed for any sign of emotional response. do they feel an affinity, or do they recoil at the unsettling juxtaposition of blending cuteness and decay? how far can we go? each click, each comment, serves as data.
